Does Flynn Need a Sibling?

In  honor of National Sibling Day I started thinking about possibly getting a new dog/puppy. I have thought about the idea often but I am not sure if having another dog would be good for Flynn. He loves my mothers dog and most other dogs he meets. He has never reacted aggressively to anything or anyone. I think it would be good for him to have a companion. I have thought about adoption, but I have really started to think about fostering dogs. If anyone has experience on fostering I would love your advice and tips. Thanks to all!!

  1. Hi there! Just my take...but fostering is not quite as easy as it sounds. I considered it, but after doing some extensive research, decided against it. Not only that, my husband would have thrown me out on the street if I brought home any more animals! :) My LadyBug is a rescue and she has had some "issues" with aggression...she is VERY protective of me...even still. We have had LadyBug for three years now! I would suggest talking to some people who are involved in rescue and fostering before you make any decisions. Having a companion for Flynn might be a good idea if you are at work all day. I find that my girlz will play with each other and keep themselves occupied. Some of my friends have even gotten kittens to keep their bigger dogs company!

  2. Hi Brooke, I'm Henry's Human. He was a foster and his foster parent is a friend. If you are in Southern California I know she would be willing to talk to you about the responsibilities.

You do need to think about Flynn. My friend was fostering a pup I almost adopted to be a brother for Henry. She was nursing him through mange and kennel cough. You'd have to be selective on the fosters. You would not want Flynn to catch something serious.

Also, many fosters have been on the street or abused and although they are wonderful, they need lots of TLC to get back on track. My friend is retired and gives her fosters nearly full time attention! A big commitment. I really admire her.

Another possibility is fostering a service dog. I don't know if that is available where you live, but I have had several students in my classes bring their dogs to class. It is a full time commitment too, but the dog is with you nearly 100% of the time.

    Good luck with your choices!
